My First Overnight Getaway...sans boys.

I had a great time in Austin with my college girlfriends celebrating Jen's upcoming wedding! I headed out early Friday morning, and I think I enjoyed the drive almost as much as the weekend with the girls. There is just something about driving down an empty country highway just listening to your favorite music with sunroof open. I probably had a silly grin on my face the whole way there!
open country.

silly grin.

i couldn't stay too far away from those cuties! i had to bring a picture to glance at every so often..

Erika and I had fun getting the groceries for the weekend, and then scoping out the lake house that they rented. The place was awesome! It had a great view of Lake Travis, and the weather was amazing. We spent most of our time lounging on the patio just catching up.

I had to steal some of the pics from Allison.

So, on Saturday morning I called Zach to see how Friday evening went and how the boys slept. When I asked him about it, here is what he said, "I spent all night in the ER with the boys." WHAT?!?!

On Friday evening, he walked into the kitchen to find Will surrounded by broken glass and holding onto his mouth. He was super worried that Will ate some glass, and after a few phone calls back and forth, we decided that he was probably OK. Will doesn't really put things in his mouth, and if they are hard, he immediately spits them out. He was calm and went to bed that night without problems, so we thought the drama was over. Well, around midnight, Will woke up crying and holding onto his mouth. So that scared Zach enough to take them to the ER. Zach packed up both of the boys by himself and headed to the hospital. They got there around 1am, and after a few xrays and exams, they all got home around 4am. No glass in the mouth or stomach. I think this story is funny for a couple reasons:

#1 : I have spent exactly 365 days (and nights) with the boys that never involved an ER visit. EXACTLY one year and one night later, I decided to take a much needed mommy break...and look what happens?!?! I mean...seriously!

#2 : Zach has earned the nickname hypochondri-zach. He has morphed into one of the most worried people I know since having kids. So I think it is super funny that he freaked out enough to spend all night in the ER with two babies. By himself. The very first night that he had the boys by himself**.

**sidenote: only this would happen to zach. when he got to the ER, one of his friends was there trying to get a fishing hook out of his finger. so he randomly managed to run in to a good friend who stayed all night to help him out.

Here is some damage that Zach kicked into our wall at home. He was so mad at himself for 'letting' this all happen that his emotions got the best of him. HA! I find this bizarre because he has never done anything like that before. Now everyone can see it as they come into our house in our entryway.

Anyways, I am so glad that nothing bad happened to the boys. The night before I left for the trip, I told a friend that I was so ready for my get-away that I wouldn't even turn around to come home if they were in the hospital. Little did I know....

This whole thing just made me laugh...I like the "hypochodri-zach" nickname.

After I got done laughing hysterically I read this post to Geoff who wanted me to say this: "Fatherhood is the most humbling experience in a man's life, especially when mom is out of town. After all, who do you turn to for expert advice?" Then he walked out the door chuckling and muttering under his breath, "That Zach." I love our men. They're delightful.

OMG! I am so glad that they were ok. I have to admit, this is a pretty hilarious story. I can only say that because we know Zach so well and love him so much. This will definitely be retold over and over as the boys get older...
