Part one- I love Mexico

Zach and I just got back from our much-anticipated vacation to Cancun. We had been talking about it since Christmas, so we were very excited to finally board the plane and get there. We spent the first couple days touring ancient Mayan ruins. It was a beautiful sight to see. The ruins we went to were in Tulum, and they are set on a cliff that drops down to beautiful clear waters.

The next day we snorkeled for a couple hours and saw some amazing things. I could spend all day snorkeling! It was much more enjoyable and peaceful than I thought it would be. We ended up seeing a 6 ft long barracuda, almost all the fish that are in the dentist’s tank in Nemo, live star fish, live conch shells, colorful anemones, elaborate coral reef, and I think I even saw an eel (no one believes me, though). Needless to say, it was a science dork’s dream come true. Later on in the week, I even got to hold a 4 ft long tiger shark- they feel a lot different than you might think.
The resort that we stayed at was awesome! The pool was the biggest pool system in Cancun, and that made the days at the hotel very enjoyable! I think I laid out more than I ever have before, but I sure do look tan now! We played a lot of beach volleyball, water volleyball, giant chess..etc. My favorite game though was Family Relay Races. We each had a different event that we had to compete in against the other teams player. My event was the doggy paddle. Let me preface this story by saying that I was never a good swimmer. I was almost afraid of water for a long time, so I would get around a pool or the lake by doggy paddling. OK..back to Cancun…when I started doggy paddling, everyone started laughing. No, not because I sucked, but because I was going so fast! They really couldn’t believe how fast I could doggy paddle. Soo….now I am much more confident in the water because I know that I am a master paddler. Bring it.

Basically, we had an amazing vacation. I don’t have the patience to tell you about another whole day of snorkeling, seeing sea turtles, almost getting in a million car accidents, or all the delicious food.

Part two- I have been married for two years. Whoa.

Zach and I celebrated our two year anniversary while we were in Mexico. In many ways, it seems like we have been together for much longer than that…but in other ways, I can still make myself giddy thinking about the night that he called me out of the blue to tell me he liked me. I still get those moments where it hits me that I am married, that I have a real job, that I have a home of my own…it’s a strange thing.
I can’t imagine how different my life would be without Zach. He has added such adventure, passion, and excitement to my world, but he has also been such a source of peace, stability, trust, comfort, and love to me. I have a husband that is easy to honor, submit to, sacrifice for, and love (even like!). I can’t imagine a greater blessing to have for the rest of my life.

Kara-
I loved the Mexico pictures, and the stories. I thought about you guys all week. I would love to see you dog paddle sometime. We're glad you made it home safe, and look forward to hanging out when we get back. But, I'm not sure Ava will recognize you if you're 4 shades darker from laying out! See you soon!
